On a fresh autumn morning last year, I made my way to a stunning private house in Bedfordshire. Myself, together with a fabulous team, headed by Katherine from Katherine Yiannaki Photography, were creating a beautiful intimate wedding, to show that smaller gatherings are just as magical as larger ones.
Your wedding cake consultation is one of those planning moments couples look forward to. Eating lots of yummy cake and waxing lyrical about all the design elements you want to include in the finished creation is so much fun. My consultations are held over zoom so you don’t even have to leave the comfort of your own home. There are a lot of things to consider before we “meet” to discuss your wedding cake, some of which you may not have thought of before. Below are some helpful ideas to ensure you get the most out of your appointment.
The beauty of reduced number of guests means that a couple’s budget can stretch further in other ways and the stunning florals at this shoot said it all. Wild Blossom Floral Design created billowing displays on the staircase and fireplace together with a loose romantic bouquet and relaxed table arrangements. Even better, every bloom was grown locally by Howbury Farm Flowers. Being obsessed with nature I always take time to appreciate the floral arrangements, they are great inspiration for my sugar flowers and prove that nature isn’t always perfect, just perfectly beautiful.
The walls of the room where I arranged my cake and patisserie were painted in the most gorgeous mossy green, so warm a colour palette enhancing the delicate pink and ivory tones of my sugar flowers, with soft candle light which highlighted the gold details on the cakes and floaty fabric draped on an antique walnut table, everything complemented each other so perfectly. Of course, I had to include a bowl of Lindsay Pemberton macarons, what is a celebration without them?! And, to finish the arrangement I mad hand painted sugar cookies in soft shades of pink, ivory and moss green.
The stationery that Lulabee Weddings created matched the same subtle colour palette perfectly. Handcrafted textured card, edged in soft gold with a classic font, finished with pale pink silk ribbon and gold wax seal details. They nestled harmoniously on the table settings by Very Special Events, who chose crisp white linens, softened with ivory voile. Vintage ornate plates complemented by gold cutlery and crystal glasses all enhanced by soft flickering candlelight.
Our bride, Carly Jane Spicer, wore the most romantic fishtail gown embellished with intricate lace appliques from Rachel Ash Bridal, the back view was so stunning and its delicate design was almost mirrored in our venue’s the decorative architecture. The gown was paired with lace embellished shoes and cathedral length veil.
Emma Page Hair & Make up chose a soft knotted bun with wispy strands softening the brides face and natural make up in peachy nude tones. Accessories by Rachel Sokhal Bridal continued the gold design touches and a delicate heart-shaped diamond ring with double band of diamonds by Holly Robinson Jewellery, sparkled beautifully on our brides perfectly manicured hand.
Together our shoot proved that if you are choosing an intimate wedding, it can most definitely be romantic, beautiful and full of stunning details. Embrace the opportunity to tie the knot with a select group of loved ones and revel in the opportunity of spending quality time with each and every guest rather than your day flying by in a flurry of faces.
